Payments NZ API Centre ends its industry-led open banking role

The development

Payments NZ reported that its API Centre ceased operating on 30 September 2026, ending its role in open banking standards development, management and governance. The notice says open banking continues under the MBIE-led regulatory framework, with the future approach to standards management, certification and support still being worked through.
